In psychoanalytic psychotherapy, the client and the therapist meet regularly 2 to 3 times a week for several months or years, 45 minutes at a time. Feelings and ways of interacting with the closest ones are often discussed during the process.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a time-consuming developmental process, and its objective is to make permanent changes in the client. Making an inner process start takes time, and an absolute confidence between the therapist and the client is required.

The psychoanalytic process is based on an assumption that the client is as honest as possible, expressing his/her thoughts and feelings freely. The aim is to get in touch with own emotions and experiences by interacting with the therapist. Processing own experiences and understanding them deeply is one of the basic ideas of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy can help the client gain a better understanding of his/her life and make changes in it, when the awareness of one’s own self, needs and motives increases.

Before starting the actual therapeutic process, the client and the therapist meet a few times in order to evaluate, whether psychoanalytic psychotherapy and this particular therapist are suitable for the client.
